Code Red For Humanity

We are sure you have all seen the news this month about the UN’s climate report announcement. To sum up, humans need to reduce their carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030 or it’s too late. Being an ethical consumer is one way we can reduce our carbon footprint, and it’s at the core of everything we do here at Absolutely Bear. That’s why we create eco-friendly, accessible sustainable men’s clothing that’s kind to the planet.

The real effects of climate change

We are already starting to see the effects of climate change, with the earth’s average temperature rising by 1.1C. Wildfires fuelled by this heat have been attacking America this year. Greenland’s sheet of ice is certain to continue melting as the oceans become warmer, causing sea levels to rise. As the planet continues to warm, we will also see some extreme weather conditions hit harder, such as heatwaves, floods, droughts and storms.

The reports are telling us that the emissions are completely caused by humans and it’s guaranteed to get worse unless we start to act. Scientists have been spreading this message for decades, but sadly, the world hasn’t been listening.

“Our report shows that we need to be prepared for going into that level of warming in the coming decades. But we can avoid further levels of warming by acting on greenhouse gas emissions,” said report co-chair Valerie Masson-Delmotte, a climate scientist at France’s Laboratory of Climate and Environment Sciences at the University of Paris-Saclay.’ – AP News.

How Is Fast Fashion Killing Our Planet?

‘Fast fashion’ refers to buying cheap clothes and wearing them only once or twice. It’s this type of overconsumption that is destroying our planet.

The fast fashion industry produces 10% of all carbon emissions created by humans. Making it the second largest industry to pollute our planet, right behind oil. It causes irreversible destruction to our planet due to the energy and resources needed, including the toxic chemicals that contaminate our water.

What Can You Do To Help?

To loosely quote our friends over at Live Franklyevery purchase you make matters. When you choose to buy from a brand you are choosing the future you want. As an ethical men’s clothing company, we aren’t saying that buying an organic cotton t-shirt from us is going to stop climate change, but it is a step into the right mindset and one of the small things we can do to make a big change.

Here at AB, amongst our sustainable packaging and organic cotton manufacturing, we also aim to make products that last. So that you can buy less and wear more. Besides the fact that organic cotton uses 91% less water and doesn’t poison the earth with chemicals, the longer fibres make it durable and longer-lasting.
